elementary and secondary school teachers in Title I schools, the bill
authorizes an increase in the total loan forgiveness. By increasing the maximum loan forgiveness from $5,000 to $17,500,
this measure addresses the need to increase the number of quality teachers
in our nation's classrooms. Also, providing an incentive for teachers
to work in disadvantaged areas with a priority for teachers of special
education, mathematics and science and teachers in local education agencies
struggling to attract highly qualified teachers is H.R. 5091.
