Economic Stimulus Plan Bills Vote Expected This Week

The Senate plans to debate on two competing economic stimulus plans with a vote expected this week. The plan proposed by Senator Grassley is similar to The Economic Security Act of 2001 H.R. 3090 (To view this bill, visit http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d107:h.r.03090:) and would do the most to stimulate the economy out of the current decline through vigorous tax reduction combined with limited increases in spending.

In contrast, the Daschle plan The Economic Recovery and Assistance for American Workers Act of 2001 (To view this bill, visit http://finance.senate.gov/sitepages/legislation.htm) would combine limited targeted tax relief with a substantial increase in government spending to remedy the economic problems exacerbated by the September 11 attacks.

Though not perfect, the Grassley plan would provide uniformly superior economic results through limited federal spending and needed significant tax relief.

What Can You Do?

Urge your senators to oppose the Daschle Plan and support the Grassley Plan for economic stimulus.
