Senate Resumes Consideration of Director of the Central Intelligence Agency nominee Mike Pompeo

At 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 23, 2017, the Senate will resume the consideration of the nomination of Mike Pompeo to be Director of the Central Intelligence Agency.  The Democrats are playing political games with President Donald Trump's cabinet nominees as they delayed a Friday, January 20, 2017, vote.  On the afternoon of Friday, January 20, 2017, CIA Director John Brennan and the deputy director resigned.  The agency's acting director is a career CIA officer Meroe Park.  The Democrats could have confirmed Mr. Pompeo quickly as part of a slate of national security nominees but this would have allowed President Trump to get off to a quick start.  The CIA, under former Director John Brennan, has become a politicalized organization.  For example, by mixing in political appointees and analysts with trained operatives, the Directorate of Operationsthe espionage branch has been weakened.   The CIA is in need of reforms and each day that Democrats delay a vote on Mr. Pompeo puts the national security of the nation at risk.  Mr. Pompeo is highly qualified to be director of the CIA and was considered one of the strongest national security voices in the House of Representatives as a prominent member of the Intelligence Committee.
