Capital Hill Watch Alert

Request for a Congressional Investigation
into the Activities of
Representatives John Murtha and Nancy Pelosi

According to a Washington Times editorial on June 21, 2006, the Los Angeles Times in June 2005, reported that US Representative of Pennsylvania John Murtha (Democrat), the ranking member on the defense appropriations subcommittee, has a brother, Robert Murtha, whose lobbying firm represents 10 companies that received from last year's defense spending bill more than $20 million.  Also, the Los Angeles Times reported, "Clients of the lobbying firm KSA Consulting — whose top officials also include former congressional aide Carmen V. Scialabba, who worked for Representative Murtha as a congressional aide for 27 years —received a total of $20.8 million from the bill."

The editorial went on to say that in 2004, Representative Murtha "reportedly leaned on US Navy officials to sign a contract to transfer the Hunters Point Shipyard to the city of San Francisco."  At the time an executive of the company which owned the rights to the land was Laurence Pelosi, nephew of US Representative of California, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Democrat). Also, a Roll Call article indicated that Representative Murtha had been behind millions of dollars worth of earmarks in defense appropriations bills that went to companies owned by the children of fellow Pennsylvania Democrat, US Representative Paul Kanjorski.

The Washington Times editorial indicated that Representative Murtha was a top recipient of defense industry dollars in the current 2006 election cycle according to the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan campaign-finance watchdog group.

If the following allegations are true, it is a shocking culture of corruption and cronyism that exists in Washington.  It is the duty of every American to request that their representatives call for an immediate congressional investigation into these allegations to determine if inappropriate actions were committed.
