Terrorists Use Phony “Humanitarian” Mission to Try and Break Israeli Blockade of Gaza

By Joel P. Rutkowski, Ph.D., President

Part IV

Gaza Does Not Have a Humanitarian Problem

According to UN Middle East Envoy Robert Perry except for occasional shortages of construction materials and other goods there is "no humanitarian problem in Gaza." Under certain conditions, Hamas will only let goods into Gaza and often aid is not greeted with enthusiasm.

According to a June 4, 2010, Spiegel Online report, Zaed Khadar, used to be a proud homeowner that built a three-story house in Jabalia, north of Gaza City.  From the ground floor of his home, he ran a supermarket and was able to support his seven children from the profit he earned.  On the roof of their home his wife bred chickens.  However, suddenly Khadar's life was in ruins when the Gaza War broke out, a three-week conflict between December 2008 and January 2009 between Hamas and Israel.  In every sense of the word Mr. Khadar has been helpless since his neighborhood, house and business were all destroyed. The Khadars' have never received any of the donations coming to the Gaza Strip from both large and small aid organizations.

Mr. Khadar said, "People who are not in with Hamas don't see any of the relief goods or the gifts of money."  Currently the family lives in an emergency shelter on the sand dune where his house once sat.  The roof is the canvas of a tent that provided the family with shelter for the first summer after the war.  And the shelter is constructed of concrete blocks that Khadar dug from the rubble. Khadar complains, "Hamas supporters get prefabricated housing, furnishings and paid work. We get nothing."

Aid Is Distributed at Hamas' Discretion

Khadar, like many of his neighbors, is a die-hard supporter of the Fatah party, the sworn political enemy of Hamas. This is the reason why the Khadar's have little hope of seeing any aid that is brought into the Gaza Strip.

Khadar explains, "We knew Hamas would take the goods for themselves and distribute them at their own discretion. For us, and for many of our friends, it doesn't make any difference whether the world is trying to help us. “

The autocratic rulers of the Gaza Strip, Hamas is playing politics with aid delivery in which conditions have been placed. Goods are brought into Gaza all at once not piece by piece. Hamas wants to ensure the building materials are all handed over by making these demands.   Khadar appeals to aid organizations to do everything they can so Hamas does not get hold of the aid but to try and deliver to the citizens of Gaza the goods directly. When Khadar speaks about his neighbors behind the dune he becomes particularly enraged.  Recently, his neighbors were given a brand new house, complete and ready for them to move in by the Hamas Prime Minister of Gaza Ismail Haniyeh.

Iran's proxy war with Israel

Two Islamic terrorist groups at war with Israel-Hamas on Israel's southern border and the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah on the North are sponsored by Iran.  Both terrorist groups are supplied with rockets and other arms by Iran.

No time was wasted in trying to capitalize on the incident by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who in all possibility could have been involved in orchestrating the event. According to news reports President Ahmadinejad, during a provincial visit to the town of Ilam said, "I ask the Security Council to keep the crimes of the Zionists on its agenda and to cut off their hands from committing crimes with a strong resolution." President Ahmadinejad has vowed repeatedly to destroy Israel as the world stays by and does nothing as the neo-Hitler pursues the development of nuclear weapons.

Finally thoughts

The world should be outraged and confronting the Islamist Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, not Israel, because he knows that it was necessary for Israel to confront the phony “peace” flotilla” off Gaza on May 31, 2010.  There is no doubt that he knows that one of the bloodiest terrorist organizations that exists in the Middle East is the IHH which organized and manned the convoy of ships. For a year the flotilla had been planned.   The flotilla's organizers had sought and received Turkish government support indicated U.S. newspaper accounts.

Disturbed that the incident took place in international waters was U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki Moon.  And claiming that the Israeli operation had no legal justification was United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay.  However, both these individuals by their words show their ignorance of maritime law. Routinely, suspicious vessels are stopped, boarded and searched by navies. For years, Israel has intercepted blockade runners headed to Gaza. However, this time the "peace activists" on board the Mavi Marmara were armed and looking for a fight.

The real purpose of the flotilla was to provoke a confrontation with Israel that would further damage its already frayed diplomatic and military ties with Turkey -- not that Ankara needs much encouragement in that regard according to open statements by the IHH leaders.

The Jerusalem Post reported on June 4, 2010, that according to details from Israel Defense Forces ongoing investigation of the Gaza flotilla, the IDF identified one of the passengers aboard the Mavi Marmara , as the ringleader of a group of mercenaries who were recruited from a city in northwest Turkey.

A group of about 50 well-trained men – of the 700 on board –were stationed throughout the Mavi Marmara.  They were mostly on the upper deck, where they laid an ambush for the IDF soldiers who rappelled onto the deck from helicopters as was identified by the IDF. This violent group's members did not carry passports or identity cards.  Each of them instead had an envelope with about $10,000 in cash in their pocket. The funding for the mercenaries may have come from elements within the Turkish government according to suspicions by the Israeli defense establishment.

One member of the group, who appears to have been the ringleader, traveled to the city of Bursa in northwest Turkey and allegedly recruited mercenaries for the flotilla there claims sources within the Israeli defense establishment. This group of men can be seen preparing to confront Israeli navy commandos in videos from the Mavi Marmara  released by the IDF. The group of activists brandishing metal bars, slingshots, and other assorted weaponry can be seen in the videos, taken by the ship's security cameras. And positioned throughout the deck were smaller squads of men wearing bulletproof vests and gas masks while using handheld communication devices to communicate with one another.

A member of the group threw a stun grenade onto the IDF commando vessel that pulled up alongside the Mavi Marmara one video clearly shows. Groups of at least four or five men swarmed each commando that landed on the top deck, beating them with metal bars, and in one case throwing a soldier off the third deck another video shows.  In at least two cases, soldier testified that their helmets, vests and side arms were taken from them.  And to save themselves from being lynched, two soldiers jumped off the ship into the water.

Israeli Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilna'i told a Knesset hearing on Wednesday, June 2, 2010, that all nine men killed on the Mavi Marmara were “involved in the fighting.” He said, “There were no innocents among the dead.”

Also, it was reported that three of the four Turks killed on ship sought a shahada (martyrdom) death. According to the official “Palestinian” Authority daily Al-Hayat al-Jadida  relatives and fiends said “Three of the four Turks killed in the Israeli attack on the ‘Freedom Flotilla' bound for the Gaza Strip wanted to die as martyrs.

The lie that continues to be perpetrated by the Arab world, Islamic world and the media and unfortunately, much of the world foolishly accepts is that there is a "humanitarian crisis" in Gaza. For example, already moved from Israel to Gaza this year alone have been more than a quarter-million tons of medicine, food and other supplies. In fact, once Israel inspected the flotilla's supplies for weapons and other contraband, Israel offered to transport the supplies to Gaza. And flatly rejected was this offer.

The Islamist terrorist group Hamas poses a mortal threat to Egypt. And similarly, essentially for the same reason as Israel, Egypt maintains a blockade of Gaza and is willing to inspect the flotilla's cargo to transport it to Gaza. Since these offers of both Israel and Egypt were rejected, Israel had sufficient justification to intercept the flotilla.

Gaza has been ruled by the autocratic Islamic terrorist group Hamas and the purpose of the convoy was to break the blockade. And even if Israel decided to act in international waters, these actions would be justified under international law.  The world must stop its idiocy as well as denial and forgo blaming Israel for its actions against the flotilla and accept the cold-hearted fact that the Islamist terrorist group Hamas has a constant effort to smuggle weapons into Gaza.  And if the world does not, the blood of innocent Jewish men, women and children murdered by the smuggled weapons will be on their hands.

Masquerading in the guise of peace, the Gaza flotilla “activists” used brutal violence. Yet a disturbingly massive portion of the world identified the events as an IDF atrocity and massacre. However, compliant with international law, those aboard the Mavi Marmara were warned by the IDF that their presence in the area was unwelcomed.  The flotilla was directed to sail safely, along with all of its humanitarian aid, to a different port by the IDF.  Disregarding the instructions was one of six ships of the flotilla-the Mavi Marmara which sailed on and as any naval force contended with this situation boarded the ship.

As IDF soldiers boarded the Mavi Marmara they were attacked by various individuals with bottles filled with marbles, clubs, flares, knives, metal poles, and other weapons. Various, widely-circulated YouTube clips documented the violence. Soldiers were not greeted by posters and flyers-instead they found weapons and individuals fighting ruthlessly.  As a result, solders were forced to defend themselves and responded with force.

There is no doubt that President Barack Obama understands the effect of his policy towards Israel.  One would be foolish to believe that the President was not briefed on intelligence warnings of Turkey's intent regarding the flotilla and instead remained silent and never warned Israel. Also, it is disturbing that President Obama remained silent and did not condemn Turkey for its support of the Mavi Marmara or Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan when he said Hamas is not a terrorist  group.  From President Obama's actions towards Israel, one can discern that he believes that the Israeli-“Palestinian” conflict stands in the way of Middle East peace as well as peace between the U.S. and the Arab and Muslim world.  The President's policy towards Israel is to force the Jewish nation to terms regardless of the consequences for its security to accede to “Palestinian” rulers, such as Hamas.  One such example of this can be viewed by the Obama administration support of a U.N. resolution on Friday, May 28, 2010, that calls for a nuclear free Middle East that remains silent regarding Iran's nuclear program but singles out Israel's.  As U.S. support for Israel gradual diminishes, it only encourages the neo-Hitler Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that he can wipe Israel off the map.

Those condemning Israel for their response truly know that the issue is not one to be debated.  Any nation that has condemned Israel knows that if a similar vessel entered their waters in an attempt to breach a security blockade that those condescending nations would respond similarly with a naval response.  Defensive measures are warranted when violence is completely unsolicited.

What is disconcerting, is that the world does not grasp the reality of the region and Israel's response was one of self defense as neighboring Islamic nations began to plot the genesis of a neo-Holocaust that would eliminate every Jew in the region as well as the world if they could.  Israel's Islamic enemies have used various means such as bombs, missiles, rockets, ships, etc, to attack Israel and murder innocent Jews on several fronts.

In order to accuse Israel of using disproportionate force or perpetrating “massacres,” and weaken its fight against Islamo-fascist terrorism, the global media as well as world leaders use death tolls. Once again those that condemn Israel should watch the YouTube clips to see the whole truth about death tolls.

If one is truly honest with oneself, one can clearly see the deluded approach much of the world has taken towards Israel and its Islamic enemy. As long as the world continues to accept the propaganda of the “Palestinian”-Arabs, Islamic allies, and their supporters, peace will remain unattainable in the region.

The world remains silent as terrorists in Gaza continue their attack on Israeli civilians with mortars and rockets, and in one recent incident attempted a terror attack with a donkey-pulled cart-bomb. And one can be sure that Turkish support for Hamas is just another attempt to isolate Israel from the global community and start a new intifada against the Jews.

A planned trip to meet with President Obama in Washington was cancelled on Monday, May 31, 2010, by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In March, Prime Minister Netanyahu was treated rudely by President Obama when they met in the White House.  The prime minister was brought into the White House through the servant's entrance.  Prior to this, no other head of state has ever received such a disgraceful manner of treatment.   President Obama kept the prime minister waiting and a photo op was not allowed. The President during the meeting offered no refreshments to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu but lectured him on how Israel is not permitted to attack Iran and that Israel must withdraw all forces from Judea and Samaria (“West Bank”) and may not build any more neighborhoods (settlements) in East Jerusalem.  President Obama left the meeting at one point and told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu he should talk to White House aides.

The world watches as the Obama administration undermines Israel's every move. And Islamo-fascists such as Hamas, Hezbollah, Iranian President  Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and theTurkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan are emboldened and empowered to attack Israel on all fronts as President Obama drives a wedge between the U.S. and Israel.
