Death Tax Repeal Permanency Act of 2003  (H.R. 8)  

On Wednesday, June 18, 2003, the House of Representatives is expected to vote on the Death Tax Repeal Permanency Act of 2003  (H.R. 8) (Full text of legislation )  

The measure repeals the sunset provision in the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act (EGTRRA), making permanent the repeal of the estate tax once it is effective in 2010.  The estate tax is phased out and completely repealed effective in 2010 by the EGTRRA.  However, under the law, this repeal sunsets and the tax will be re-imposed in 2011, with a maximum rate of 55 percent and a unified credit exemption of only $1 million.
