Conference Report; Relief for Working Families Tax Act of 2003 (H. R. 1308)

The Senate cast a 92-3 vote, on September 23, 2004, for the Conference Report; Relief for Working Families Tax Act of 2003 (H. R. 1308) (Full text of legislation.)  with only retiring Senator Ernest F. Hollings (D-S.C.),  and Senators Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine) and Lincoln D. Chafee (R-R.I.) voting against three extended tax cuts aimed at the middle class.  Along with an array of business tax breaks, this bill sent President Bush a $146 billion tax relief package.  (To view how your senators voted visit: Vote 00188)

Confirmation Porter J. Goss, of Florida, To Be Director of Central Intelligence  

On September 22, 2004, despite opposition from Democrats who said Congressman Porter Goss is too partisan, the U.S. Senate confirmed the congressman to be the next director of the Central Intelligence Agency by a 77 to 17 vote (To view how your senators voted visit: Vote 00187 )

The House of Representatives in a 339 to 65 vote on September 23, 2004, approved the Conference Report; Relief for Working Families Tax Act of 2003 (H. R. 1308) (Full text of legislation.) Pledge Protection Act (H.R. 2028) 

On September 23, 2004, the House of Representatives passed on a 247-173 vote the Pledge Protection Act (H.R. 2028) (Full text of legislation.)
