Strengthening Oversight of Iran's Access to Finance Act (H.R.4324)

 

The House of Representatives passed the Strengthening Oversight of Iran's Access to Finance Act (H.R.4324; Text of Legislation) on a 252-167 vote on Thursday, December 14, 2017 (To view how your representative voted visit: 684).  The measure effectively blocked U.S. manufacturers such as Boeing from selling commercial passenger aircraft to Iran unless the Treasury Department certifies Iran would not use the planes to further its weapons programs or involvement in global terrorism.

Strengthening Oversight of Iran’s Access to Finance Act (H.R.4324)

 

A Democrat amendment to the Strengthening Oversight of Iran's Access to Finance Act (H.R.4324; Text of Legislation) was defeated on an 188-233 vote on Thursday, 14, 2017 (To view how your representative voted visit: 683). The amendment was a bid to add Russia to HR 4324 on grounds it is an ally and enabler of Iran. Also, it  would require Treasury certification that banks financing aircraft sales to Iran have not done business with any entity found to have “engaged in or authorized cyber-attacks targeting any election held in the United States,” namely Russia.

Iranian Leadership Asset Transparency Act (H.R.1638)

 

The House of Representatives passed the Iranian Leadership Asset Transparency Act (H.R.1638; Text of Legislation) on a 289-135 vote (To view how your representative voted visit: 680) on Wednesday, December 13, 2017.  The measure would require the Treasury Department to disclose on the Internet the financial assets of Iran’s top military and political leaders, with classified information provided only to Congress.
