National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2018 (H.R.2810)

 

On Wednesday, September 13, 2017, the Senate tabled (killed) on a 61-36 vote (To view how your senators voted visit: 195 ) an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2018 (H.R.2810; Text of legislation) that would repeal in six months the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force and the 2002 Iraq war resolution and replace them with updated legal authority for America’s ongoing military actions in Afghanistan, the Middle East and Africa.

Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2018 (H.R.3354)

 

The Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2018 (H.R.3354; Text of Legislation) was passed by the House of Representatives on Thursday, September 14, 2017, on a 211-198 vote (To view how your representative voted visit: 528).  The measure is a $416.3 billion spending package that includes eight of the 12 appropriations bills that would fund federal departments and agencies in fiscal 2018. The $416.3 billion spending bill was then merged with the four previously passed appropriations measures, putting total discretionary spending at $1.13 trillion for the budget year that starts October 1.

An amendment to raise spending for pre-disaster hurricane aid in The Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2018 (H.R.3354; Text of Legislation) by $2.4 billion and cut the same sum from accounts that would fund a wall on the southern border and add 10,000 beds for immigration enforcement was defeated by the House of Representatives on a 186-223 vote (To view how your representative voted visit: 519 ).

Criminal Alien Gang Member Removal Act (H.R.3697)

 

To authorize Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to deport aliens who belong to criminal gangs or participate in gang activity the House of Representatives on Thursday, September 14, 2017, passed the Criminal Alien Gang Member Removal Act (H.R.3697; Text of Legislation ) on a 233-175 vote (To view how your representative voted visit: 517 ).
