EPA Science Advisory Board Reform Act of 2017 (H.R.1431)

 

The EPA Science Advisory Board Reform Act of 2017 (H.R.1431; Text of Legislation) was passed by the House of Representatives on Thursday, March 30, 2017, by a 229-193 vote (To view how your representative voted visit: 208). Procedures at the EPA’s Science Advisory board would be changed by the measure by requiring the EPA to include risk assessments in regulatory proposals it makes, add transparency and public comment requirements, and direct the board to avoid making policy determinations or recommendations.

Honest and Open New EPA Science Treatment Act (HONEST Act) [H.R.1430]

A joint resolution providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Federal Communications Commission relating to "Protecting the Privacy of Customers of Broadband and Other Telecommunications Services" (S.J.Res.34)

 

A joint resolution providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Federal Communications Commission(FCC) relating to "Protecting the Privacy of Customers of Broadband and Other Telecommunications Services" (S.J.Res.34; Text of Legislation ) was passed by the House of Representatives by a 215-205 vote  (To view how your representative voted visit: 202).  The rule was a unilateral usurpation of the Federal Trade Commission’s jurisdiction over Internet privacy, with resulting regulatory confusion, and because the FCC already had the authority to enforce privacy laws as they apply to broadband service providers the rule was unnecessary.

Pacific Northwest Earthquake Preparedness Act of 2017 (H.R.654)

 

On Monday, March 27, 2017, the Pacific Northwest Earthquake Preparedness Act of 2017 (H.R.654; Text of Legislation ) was passed by the House of Representatives on a 395-11 vote (To view how your representative voted visit: 196 ).   The Federal Emergency Management Agency would be required by the bill to develop measures, including an earthquake early warning system, to prepare the Northwest states for a subduction zone earthquake and tsunami.

 

To require the Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency to submit a report regarding certain plans regarding assistance to applicants and grantees during the response to an emergency or disaster (H.R.1117)

 

The House of Representatives passed the To require the Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to submit a report regarding certain plans regarding assistance to applicants and grantees during the response to an emergency or disaster (H.R.1117; Text of Legislation) on a 408-0 vote (To view how your representative voted visit: 195)  on Monday, March 27, 2017.  The measure would require the Federal Emergency Management Agency to submit to Congress a report on FEMA’s plans for programs to provide assistance to recipients of FEMA aid in disaster response efforts.
