Senate Confirms Samuel Alito as Associate Justice to the Supreme Court
Immediate Release. February 1, 2006 After being confirmed by the Senate in one of the most abusive, misrepresented, hateful and partisan nominations, Samuel Anthony Alito Jr. was sworn in as this nation's 110th Supreme Court Justice on January 31, 2006.
The New Jersey native, Mr. Alito was a former federal appellate judge, United States (US) attorney and attorney for the Reagan administration. He was confirmed by a 58 to 42 vote by the Senate to replace retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.
Senator Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island was the lone “Republican” voting against Judge Alito's confirmation. And four Democratic Senators Ben Nelson of Nebraska, Kent Conrad of North Dakota, Tim Johnson of South Dakota and Robert C. Byrd of West Virginia voted for his confirmation.
“The tragedy of Judge Alito's confirmation hearings for Associate Justice to the Supreme Court was that the world had to see the despicable behavior of the Democrats to assassinate the character as well as his jurisprudence through lies, deception and subterfuge,“ said Dr. Joel P. Rutkowski, president of the American Voice Institute of Public Policy. He added, “Superbly qualified for the Supreme Court is Judge Alito. In fact, an extensive investigation of the judge's career as an attorney and judge was conducted by the American Bar Association (ABA) – a liberal organization which unanimously gave him its highest rating of “well qualified” for service on the Supreme Court.“
Only time will tell through his rulings if Judge Alito was truly the best choice for Associate Justice to the Supreme Court. However, the Democrats as a whole owe this nation and Judge Alito an apology for their outrageous behavior during confirmation hearings. Justice Alito's ideology and past rulings as a judge portrayed a constructionist not a judicial activist. This was contrary to what Democrats believe is the model individual for a Supreme Court Justice. Their ideal model of such an individual is Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg who believes a Supreme Court Justice should not interpret the Constitution but rewrite it through judicial rulings. Since the Democrats have been unable to win at the ballot box, they believe at this time the best way to promote their ill-fated agenda for this nation is through judicial activism. Tragically, when Americans believed that the Anti-American Democrats could not sink to a new low, they proved this premise to be wrong. The pit that they are in is bottomless.
